The Evolutionary Advantages of Babies
Evolution is supposed to mean the survival of the fittest. I don’t know if you’ve taken a good look at a tiny child lately, but “fit” wouldn’t be the first word that comes to my mind. At four months, my son already had a donut tire around his middle.
So how have babies survived lo these many years? Why haven’t they become extinct, like dinosaurs?
One reason: because babies are cuter than dinosaurs.
If it weren’t for their protective cuteness, I sometimes wonder how small children would make it. These thoughts come to the minds of many parents at two in the morning.

Babies survive because they have caring parents to protect them with their life. In fact, I would hypothesize that it’s the nurturing bond that develops in the parents, and the desire to protect your little one with your whole life that keeps these cute babies safe.
One only has to watch a news story about neglectful parents to know how true this can be.
