Respecting infants
It’s been a challenge for me to maintain respect for my infant son. The first time I saw him, he had an air of dignity about him. And I was filled with awe anyway. But let’s face it, he didn’t have many accomplishments on his resume. He wasn’t much of a conversationalist.
It reminds me of what it must be like to have frequent contact with a mentally retarded adult. So people don’t always respect them? Neither did Hitler. At least over time, I’m confident that my son is going to become more intelligent and capable, which is not as obvious with people whose intellectual development is delayed.
But right now I have to remember that he is the same person who will advise and counsel with me someday. We will make decisions together. He may even have to make decisions for me, when I’m not capable or making them. Whenever I deal with my son, I want to keep that in mind.

Never thought of it that way…
Good point.
