Only one chance to get parenting right

Parents are increasingly turning away from the way they were raised, to try new theories of parenting. Scientific studies may not bear them out. But scientific studies are limited to studying what science can study. Children can’t be studied as laboratory rats can. They can only be observed, one time.

You can’t potty-train your son using one approach, then try it again with a different approach to see which one works better. You can’t raise your daughter permissively, then when she is grown, try raising her again with a different parenting style. You only have one chance to get it right.
